Title:Control and prevention of healthcare-related infections in primary healthcare
Abstract:Introduction: Health care–associated infections (HCAIs) remain a constant challenge in primary health care, where frequent contact occurs between patients, health care workers, and the environment. Their prevention is crucial for ensuring patient safety and the quality of health services. The aim of this thesis was to identify and analyse the most effective measures for preventing and controlling HCAIs in primary health care. Methods: A literature review was conducted using a descriptive method in the databases PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, EMERALD, and COBISS, following the PRISMA guidelines. The included studies were classified according to the hierarchy of evidence and presented in an evaluation table, followed by a content analysis to synthesize the main findings. Results: The findings revealed a low level of consistency in the implementation of basic preventive measures. The content analysis highlighted three main subcategories: (1) preventive measures and hygiene practices, (2) education and awareness-raising among health care workers and patients, and (3) organizational approaches and multidisciplinary collaboration. Discussion and Conclusion: Consistent adherence to standard procedures for infection prevention significantly reduces the incidence of HCAIs in primary health care. The findings also emphasize the need for greater awareness, continuous monitoring, and stronger organizational support. The conclusion confirms that standard infection prevention measures are fundamental to safe health care.
