Ugotovitve poudarjajo pomen zaščite duševnega zdravja mladostnikov s preventivo, medijsko ozaveščenostjo in zgodnjim prepoznavanjem tveganih vedenj

Title:The impact of social networks on the development and course of anorexia in adolescents
Abstract:Introduction: Eating disorders, especially anorexia, pose a significant health issue among adolescents. The influence of social media plays a crucial role in shaping perceptions of beauty and self-image, potentially contributing to the development of these disorders. Social networks significantly impact identity formation and body image, which can lead to disordered eating behaviors. Methods: A systematic review of English-language literature published between 2015 and 2025 focusing on the impact of social networks on the development and progression of anorexia in adolescents was conducted. The literature search was performed in the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and MEDLINE (EBSCOhost) databases. The included studies were systematically presented in a table of characteristics, and a narrative description was used to analyze and synthesize the findings. Results: Eleven studies were included in the final analysis. The findings show that the use of social networks has a significant impact on adolescents' body image and contributes to body dissatisfaction, internalization of the ideal of thinness, and restrictive eating behaviors associated with the development and maintenance of anorexia. Discussion and Conclusion: Social networks have a significant impact on the development of anorexia in adolescents, particularly through idealized body images and social comparison. The findings emphasize the importance of prevention, media awareness, and early identification of risky behaviors to protect the mental health of adolescents.
Keywords:body image, restrictive eating, media literacy
