Abstract:Uvod: Onkološko zdravljenje pogosto spremljajo presnovne spremembe, zato predstavlja prehranska podpora pomemben del celostne obravnave. Glavni vir prehranskih informacij so zdravstveni delavci.

Title:Nutritional support in the holistic care of oncology patients
Abstract:Introduction: Cancer treatment is often accompanied by metabolic changes; therefore, nutritional support is an important part of comprehensive care. This thesis examines the nutritional challenges of cancer patients and the accessibility and usefulness of nutritional information. Methods: We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional observational study using a questionnaire among 88 oncology patients in a selected healthcare institution. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (standard deviation, mean, proportions, and frequencies) in SPSS version 29.0 and were subsequently presented in tables and graphs. Results: 40,9 % report nutritional problems and 44,3% avoid foods. 84 % of respondents rate nutrition as very important or important. Healthcare professionals always ask about nutrition in 52 % of cases, while patients most often receive general dietary advice (63,3 %) and use different strategies. The main source of nutritional information is healthcare professionals. 76,1 % of patients receive a sufficient amount of nutritional information. Only 35,2% of patients seek nutritional information independently, most often online and combination with other sources. As many as 90.9% of respondents agree, that there is too much nutritional information and that reliable sources are difficult to identify. Discussion and conclusion: Nutritional support affects the quality of life of cancer patients. Key factors are timely, individualized care and reliable information. Further development should focus on individualized planning, regular monitoring of nutritional status and multidisciplinary collaboration.
