U empirijskom dijelu proveli smo kvalitativno istraživanje putem polustrukturiranih intervjua s predstavnicima javnog i privatnog sektora kako bismo dobili uvid u njihove stavove o uzrocima sezonalnosti i mogućnostima njezina smanjenja, a zatim smo proveli benchmarking analizu uspoređujući Herceg Novi s Istrom kao primjerom uspješnije diverzifikacije turističke ponude.

Title:The problem od seasonality in coastal destinations - the case of Herceg Novi
Abstract:This thesis analyzes the problem of seasonality in coastal destinations using Herceg Novi as a case study and explores the potential for developing sustainable, year-round tourism. The theoretical framework defines seasonality, examines its main causes, and analyzes its economic, sociocultural, and environmental impacts, with particular emphasis on alternative forms of tourism, especially rural tourism, as a means of reducing seasonal fluctuations. The paper also reviews the current state of tourism in Herceg Novi, including its historical development, tourism structure, and statistical data confirming a strong concentration of tourist activity during the summer months. The empirical research was conducted through semi structured interviews with representatives of the public and private sectors to examine their views on the causes of seasonality and possible solutions, followed by a benchmarking analysis comparing Herceg Novi with Istria as an example of more successful tourism diversification. The findings indicate that tourism in Herceg Novi is highly dependent on summer and seaside tourism, that the potential of the hinterland and alternative tourism forms is insufficiently utilized, and that reducing seasonality requires strategic planning, stronger stakeholder cooperation, and diversification of the tourism offer to achieve long term sustainable development.
