Title:Folk tradition through music and dance
Abstract:The diploma thesis titled Folk Tradition through Music and Dance consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The purpose of the thesis was to observe preschool children’s interest in folk tradition, especially in folk songs, dances, and circle games. In the theoretical part, we defined the concepts of folk music, children’s folk dance, and folk circle games. We presented their characteristics and highlighted their role in society. Folk music and dance were also connected to the concept of cultural heritage, as they are important bearers of identity and tradition that must be preserved and passed on to younger generations. In the practical part of the thesis we prepared nine activities based on the theoretical foundations, which we carried out in the kindergarten together with the children. Through ongoing observation and evaluation, we found that the children showed great interest in folk tradition, especially in folk songs, folk dances, and folk circle games adapted to their developmental stage. We brought folk music closer to them in the way they enjoy most – through singing, dancing, and play.
