Živali, katerih vzorci mleka so bili negativni, so imele bistveno manjše ŠSC v mleku in večjo prirejo mleka.

Title:Udder Health Monitoring in Dairy Cow Farm and Development of Mastitis Prevention and Control Plan
Abstract:The aim of the thesis was to identify the causative agents of mastitis through a microbiological examination of milk samples and to provide appropriate care for infected animals based on an etiological diagnosis. The information obtained from the milk sample analysis control and microbiological examination, served as the basis for planning measures to improve mammary gland health and consequently reduce the number of somatic cells in milk. A total of 67 different dairy cows were included in the experiment. The samples were collected in February, June, August, and October 2024. In total, 189 samplings were conducted across four periods, with each sampling referring to the results of the microbiological examination of an individual animal, for which samples were taken separately from each udder quarter. A statistical analysis of the data was conducted to compare the infected and uninfected dairy cows. The number of somatic cells (SC) in the milk, the amount of processed milk, and the content of fat, protein, and lactose in the milk were analyzed. 143 samples were negative and 46 were positive. The most frequently detected bacterium was Streptococcus uberis (S. uberis). Animals with a negative milk sample had a significantly lower SC in their milk and higher milk production. The milk fat, protein, and lactose did not differ between infected and uninfected animals. A comparison of milk control results from 2023 and 2024 showed that the proportion of cows with a lower SC was higher in 2024. The treatment of the affected cows was based on anamnesis, clinical presentation, results of microbiological tests, antibiograms, and the professional judgment of a veterinarian. Cows, for which treatment was not possible or not justified based on anamnesis and clinical presentation, were culled.
