Abstract:V raziskavi sem obravnavala pojav dnevnega brezdomstva, ki predstavlja pomemben, vendar v strokovni in širši javnosti pogosto prezrt del vsakdanjih življenjskih izkušenj številnih posameznikov.

Title:Daytime homelessness among youth in the Podravska region
Abstract:This research focuses on the issue of daytime homelessness. The topic forms a significant part of the everyday lives of many people, yet is seldom discussed. The study is set in my local environment, the Podravje region. The concept of daytime homelessness has not been extensively researched, which poses a challenge in itself. In my thesis, I examine the prevalence of the concept, the extent to which people are familiar with it (if at all), and how they interpret it. My aim was to explore and present the concept to the public, as its hidden nature and the lack of open discussion leave it overlooked. The research is divided into two parts: a theoretical and an empirical section. The theoretical part was aimed at developing an in-depth understanding of the concept under examination. The typology of homelessness distinguishes between numerous subtypes, emphasizing that homelessness does not refer solely to individuals without a roof over their heads who are visible in public spaces. In addition to visible forms, there are also more hidden forms of homelessness, including daytime homelessness, in which individuals do have a place to live but, due to various factors, are unable to develop fundamental values within it, do not feel safe, and therefore spend more time in public spaces during the day in order to avoid contact with people in their home environment. The distinction between dwelling (»domovanje«) and living (»bivanje«) can be understood subjectively in different ways; however, the idealized meaning of home should not be limited solely to its physical dimension. Within a home, an individual is expected to experience safety and a sense of belonging, develop values, and set and achieve personal goals. When this is not the case, the home may represent the very opposite situation. The empirical part presents interviews conducted with professional institutions and organizations working in the field of homelessness that are in direct contact with homeless individuals and those experiencing daytime homelessness, with the aim of gaining insight into their preparedness to address this phenomenon and the ways in which they respond to it. Through the interviews, the influence of rural and urban environments on the occurrence of daytime homelessness is examined. The study also explores the impact of technology, which often directs individuals toward different forms of time use and social interaction. For some individuals, technology represents a form of shelter or withdrawal from the public and social space.
