Abstract:Strah pred zamujenim (FoMO) je v zadnjem desetletju postal pomembno raziskovalno področje, vendar pa razmeroma malo študij preučuje načine zmanjševanja FoMO.

Title:The impact of brief mindfulness and cognitive reappraisal interventions on fear of missing out and negative affectivity
Abstract:Fear of missing out (FoMO) has become an important area of research over the past decade; however, relatively few studies have examined ways to reduce it. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of brief psychological interventions, i.e., mindfulness and cognitive reframing, on fear of missing out and negative affect, as well as to examine the relationship between FoMO as a trait and as a state. The study, conducted entirely via an online questionnaire, included 374 participants aged 15 to 62 years (M = 21,20, SD = 7,85), who were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a control group, a mindfulness group, or a cognitive reappraisal group. Participants were exposed to short 10-minute activities, and FoMO and negative affect were measured both before and after the intervention. Results showed that both interventions significantly reduced state FoMO and negative affect, although reductions were also observed in the control group. Trait FoMO was positively associated with state FoMO but did not moderate the effects of the interventions, whereas age emerged as an important moderator in the mindfulness group. These findings contribute to the understanding of FoMO as a malleable construct and highlight the practical value of brief, accessible interventions. Study's limitations include the single administration of interventions and uncontrolled conditions during their implementation.
