Abstract:Uvod: Posttravmatska stresna motnja in pojav nespečnosti je zelo pogost pri veteranski populaciji. Metode: Naredili smo pregled literature iz podatkovnih baz SAGE Journals, ScienceDirect, CINAHL Ultimate in PubMed. Pokrili smo raziskave, izdane med letoma 2015 in 2026. Vse podatke smo preučili in evalvirali kakovost dokazov. Postopek iskanja smo prikazali v PRISMA diagramu. Ustrezna obravnava spanja izboljšuje rehabilitacijo ter dobro počutje veteranov in njihovih družin.

Title:Post-traumatic stress disorder and the occurrence of insomnia in war veterans
Abstract:Introduction: Post-traumatic stress disorder and insomnia are very common among veterans. These conditions often overlap and cause a lot of problems. Since good sleep and good mental health are key factors for a good quality of life, we strive for treatment and early detection. The purpose of this thesis was to analyze how post-traumatic stress disorder affects insomnia in war veterans. Methods: We conducted a literature review using the SAGE Journals, ScienceDirect, CINAHL Ultimate, and PubMed databases. We included studies published between 2015 and 2026. We reviewed all data and assessed the quality of the evidence. We presented the search process in a PRISMA diagram. Results: In total, we identified 2971 hits and ultimately included 19 of them. We found that PTSD and insomnia are consistently intertwined among war veterans and affect the quality of life of the veteran population. Research shows that certain forms of treatment, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, have a positive effect on the overlap between these two disorders. Discussion and conclusion: Veterans are an often-overlooked population in whom insomnia significantly impacts quality of life, particularly in cases of PTSD. A comprehensive treatment approach is essential; cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia is particularly effective but underutilized. Appropriate sleep management improves the rehabilitation and well-being of veterans and their families.
