Abstract:	Magistrsko delo z naslovom Kompetentnost učiteljev pri naslavljanju teme smrti in žalovanja proučuje pogostost obravnave tematike smrti in žalovanja v šolskem prostoru, odnos učiteljev do teh tem ter njihovo zaznano usposobljenost za izvajanje tovrstnih intervencij. Namen raziskave je analizirati zaznano usposobljenost učiteljev in drugih strokovnih delavcev za obravnavo smrti in žalovanja, njihovo samooceno kompetentnosti ter ugotoviti morebitne razlike glede na poklicno vlogo in delovno dobo. Teoretični del naloge obravnava koncepte izgube in žalovanja, vlogo šole pri podpori žalujočim učencem ter razvojno razumevanje smrti pri otrocih. Poseben poudarek je namenjen tudi didaktičnim priporočilom za delo z žalujočimi otroki v vzgojno-izobraževalnem kontekstu. Empirični del temelji na anketnem vprašalniku, pri čemer sta bili uporabljeni kvantitativna in kvalitativna raziskovalna metoda. V raziskavo je bilo vključenih 157 učiteljev in strokovnih delavcev. Rezultati kažejo, da se je večina udeležencev v svojem delovnem okolju že srečala z različnimi oblikami izgub (npr. smrt starša, hišnega ljubljenčka ali druge bližnje osebe). Udeleženci so svojo kompetentnost za obravnavo teh tem ocenili kot delno ustrezno, hkrati pa so izpostavili pomanjkanje formalnega izobraževanja ter nezadostno poznavanje kriznih postopkov. Raziskava nadalje kaže, da učitelji izražajo potrebo po dodatnem usposabljanju, strokovni podpori in jasnejših smernicah za delo z žalujočimi učenci, saj so izkušnje izgube neizogiben del življenja.

Title:	Teachers’ competence in addressing death and bereavement
Abstract:	The master's thesis entitled Teachers' Competence in Addressing Death and Bereavement examines the frequency with which issues of death and bereavement are addressed within the school environment, teachers' attitudes towards these topics, and their perceived competence in implementing related interventions. The aim of the study is to analyse the perceived competence of teachers and other educational professionals to address issues of death and bereavement as well as their self-assessment of competence, and to identify any differences with regard to their professional role and length of service. The theoretical part of the thesis explores the concepts of loss and bereavement, the role of schools in supporting bereaved pupils, and the developmental understanding of death in children. Particular emphasis is also placed on didactic recommendations for working with bereaved children within the educational context. The empirical part is based on a questionnaire survey, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The study included 157 teachers and educational professionals. The findings indicate that the majority of participants have encountered various forms of loss in their professional environment (e.g. the death of a parent, a pet, or another close person). Participants assessed their competence in addressing these issues as moderately adequate, while also highlighting a lack of formal training and insufficient knowledge of crisis procedures. Furthermore, the study reveals that teachers express a need for additional training, professional support, and clearer guidelines for working with bereaved pupils, as experiences of loss are an inevitable part of life.
