Title:Work values: differences between generation x and generation z
Abstract:The master's thesis deals with the work values of employees, with an emphasis on a comparison between Generation X and Generation Z and differences according to gender. In a modern work environment characterized by a multi-generational workforce, understanding the differences in employee values is becoming crucial for effective human resource management. The theoretical part presents the characteristics of Generations X and Z, a critical aspect of the generational approach, and the fundamental characteristics of work values. Special emphasis is placed on the multidimensionality of work values, which include material, developmental, social, and status aspects of work. The empirical part is based on a survey among employees in which we analyzed the differences in work values between the generations and according to gender. The results showed that there are statistically significant differences between Generation X and Generation Z in individual work values, especially in pay, job security, benefits, and advancement opportunities, while no differences were detected in other activities, such as interesting work, relationships, and work-life balance. It was also found that members of Generation Z have a higher intention to change jobs than members of Generation X. When analyzing the difference according to gender, statistically significant differences were shown mainly in the importance of pay, while the differences were less pronounced for most other values. The findings show that differences between the groups are present, but not unambiguous, which confirms the complexity of work values. The results contribute to a better understanding of employee behavior and represent an important starting point for the design of adapted HR and organizational practices in modern organizations.
