Abstract:The paper discusses the use of advanced digital technologies for data sensing and acquisition in combination with the BIM approach for the design of variant solutions, including multi-criteria decision-making methods. Leveraging advanced digital tools, including the Leica RTC360 3D Laser Scanner and software such as Revit and Bexel Manager, the research aimed to assess the advantages and disadvantages of employing digital methods in water management facility design. Specifically, in this field, these technologies are seldom utilized and often independently for professional consideration. Four variant solutions for the pond bank were proposed, employing materials such as crushed stone, timber piles, reinforced concrete walls, and wire gabions. The study also explores the synergy between digital technologies and traditional methods in capturing environmental data and designing water management projects. Additionally, it presents the process of 3D modeling and the subsequent development of 4D and 5D BIM models using Bexel Manager software, enabling comprehensive project planning and cost estimation. Through comparative analysis based on criteria such as construction cost, time, longevity, and ecological impact, the study recommends the use of gabions as the most suitable solution for the Hotinjski pond. Furthermore, it discusses the evolving role of BIM in construction project planning and highlights the potential for further development and adaptation of BIM software in the water management industry. This research underscores the benefits and challenges of integrating digital technologies and the BIM approach in designing water management facilities, offering insights into their application and future prospects in the field.
