Abstract:Srčno-žilne bolezni ostajajo eden najpogostejših vzrokov obolevnosti in umrljivosti po svetu, zato se vse več pozornosti namenja prehrani kot možnemu zaščitnemu dejavniku. V zaključnem delu smo izvedeli pregled literature, objavljene v časovnem obdobju med letoma 2014 in 2024, v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, ScienceDirect in Web of Science. Uporabili smo opisno ali deskriptivno metodo dela. Potek pregleda literature smo prikazali v diagramu PRISMA. Identificirane raziskave smo analizirali in predstavili v evalvacijski tabeli.

Title:Vegetarian diets and the incidence of cardiovascular disease
Abstract:Cardiovascular disease remains one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, which is why increasing attention is being paid to diet as a potential protective factor. The aim of this thesis was to investigate how a vegetarian diet influences the incidence of these diseases compared with an omnivorous diet. In the final section, we conducted a review of the literature published between 2014 and 2024 in the PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases. We used a descriptive research method. We presented the literature review process in a PRISMA diagram. We analyzed the identified studies and presented them in an evaluation table. We synthesized the identified studies and classified them according to the hierarchy of evidence. Eight studies were included in the final analysis. The main findings include a reduction in cardiovascular disease risk, a reduction in LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides, an improvement in lipid profile, and a reduction in overall mortality. The results showed that vegetarian diets significantly contribute to cardiovascular risk reduction, mainly through improvements in lipid profile, LDL-cholesterol and blood pressure. It is crucial to raise awareness and educate about the benefits of a vegetarian diet and to promote healthy lifestyles that can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease in the population in the long term.
