Metode: Za namen zaključnega dela smo uporabili deskriptivni pristop ter izvedli pregled in analizo znanstvenih in strokovnih virov. Gradivo smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, Cochrane Library in Science Direct z uporabo iskalne strategije. Proces iskanja in selekcije virov je ponazorjen z diagramom poteka. Vključene raziskave so prikazane v evalvacijski tabeli. Razprava in zaključek: Terapija s pomočjo živali zmanjšuje osamljenost, anksioznost in depresijo ter izboljšuje socialne stike in razpoloženje, zlasti v institucionalnem okolju.

Title:The impact of animals on the psychosocial well-being of older people
Abstract:Introduction: Animal-Assisted Therapy is a complementary approach that promotes physical, emotional, and social development in older adults and enhances their quality of life, particularly in institutional care settings. Due to population aging and increasing prevalence of loneliness among older adults, studying the effects of animal-assisted therapy is important for the development of holistic care. The aim of this thesis is to examine, through a literature review, the impact of animals on the psychosocial well-being of older adults. Methods: For the purpose of the final thesis, a descriptive approach was used, and a review and systematic analysis of scientific and professional sources was conducted. The literature was searched in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect databases using a defined search strategy. The process of searching and selecting the sources is presented using a flow diagram. The included studies are summarized in an evaluation table. Results: Out of a total of 442 records indentified using inclusion and exclusion criteria and search restrictions, five studies were included in the final analysis and synthesis. It was found that animal-assisted therapy in older adults has positive effects on physical, psychological, and social health. Discussion and Conclusion: Animal-assisted therapy reduces loneliness, anxiety, and depression, and improves social interaction and mood, especially in institutional settings. Despite certain methodological limitations, the results confirm it as an important complementary, non-pharmacological approach in nursing care that supports holistic treatment and improves the quality of life of older adults.
