Abstract:Uvod: Oralna hormonska kontracepcija je ena izmed najpogosteje uporabljenih metod kontracepcije. Kljub veliki učinkovitosti so znane tudi slabosti oralne hormonske kontracepcije. Uporabili smo deskriptivno metodo dela. Potek iskanja literature smo ponazorili s PRISMA diagramom. Vključene raziskave smo predstavili v obliki evalvacijske tabele in sintezne tabele. Rezultati: Analizirali smo devet raziskav.

Title:Mental health of adolescent girls and the use of oral hormonal contraception
Abstract:Introduction: Oral hormonal contraception is one of the most commonly used methods of contraception. Despite its high effectiveness, the disadvantages of oral hormonal contraception are also well known. In recent years, academic and scientific literature has increasingly focused on the impact of oral hormonal contraception on mental health. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the association between oral hormonal contraception and the mental health of adolescent girls. Methods: We conducted a literature review in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases. We limited our search to articles in English published between 2015 and 2025. We used a descriptive research method. We illustrated the literature search process using a PRISMA diagram. We presented the included studies in the form of an evaluation table and a synthesis table. Results: We analyzed nine studies. Four studies found no changes in mental health associated with the use of oral hormonal contraception. The remaining five studies however, found changes in mental health associated with the use of oral hormonal contraception. Discussion and conclusion: Some studies have found that the use of oral hormonal contraception is associated with a diagnosis of depression in adulthood and with the prescription of psychotropic medications, particularly in the case of progestin-only contraceptive methods. Given the inconsistency of the review’s findings, it would be worthwhile to conduct further in-depth research on this topic in the future.
