Title:Online violence among youth in the goriška region
Abstract:This thesis examines the prevalence of cyberbullying among primary school pupils in the Goriška region and compares their experiences with those of a criminal intvestigator and three profesional practitioners working in the field of cyberbullying among young people. The aim of the study was to compare the prevalence and forms of cyberbullying experienced by young people with the views and observations of profesionals working in this area. Through interviews, the research provides insight into young people's experiences, as well as the reasons why they choose either to report or not to report cyberbullying to official institutions. The findings show that young people are most frequently exposed to milder forms of cyberbullying, such as insults, exclusion from online groups, and the spreading of rumours. Children rarely report cyberbullying formally to law enforcment authorities, mainly because of feelings of shame; instead, they are more likely to confide in their parents or teachers when such incidents occur. Police data indicate an increase in threats as a form of cyberbullying, while the prevalence of other forms vaies over time. Sexual violence is reported less frequently, it represents the most dangerous and problematic form of online abuse. A comparison of both sources suggest that young people have more experience with cyberbullying; therefore, they need greater awareness of preventive online behaviour and the ways to seek help in cases of cyberbullying. The study provides a basis for implementing preventive activities in schools and for training parents and teachers as they are key part of a rapis response.
