Title:Possible Uses of Digital Learning Games in German as a Foreign Language Classroom in Slovenian Vocational Schools
Abstract:This thesis examines the potential for integrating digital learning games into German as a Foreign language (DaF) classroom within Slovenian vocational education. Grounded in the theoretical foundations of foreign language learning—both generally and within the Slovenian context—as well as the digitalisation initiatives and the digital game-based learning approach (DGBL), this study analyses the extent to which digital learning games are incorporated into educational policies and curricula. The findings reveal that while a wide range of gamified learning resources and digital tools is readily available, the selection of more complex, standalone digital games remain limited, particularly in the field of vocational DaF teaching. An overview of the field demonstrates that significant progress has been made regarding the acceptance of game-based resources in formal education; similarly, the theoretical frameworks for the meaningful application of these games continue to evolve. Ultimately; however, the successful integration of DGBL - moving beyond gamification - depends heavily on teachers' digital competences and their overall attitudes toward the field.
