Abstract:V magistrskem delu obravnavamo človekov razvoj v državah Evropske unije ter njegovo povezanost z izbranimi ekonomskimi dejavniki in dejavniki družbene blaginje.

Title:HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRIES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION: A PANEL ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF SELECTED ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL WELFARE FACTORS
Abstract:In the master’s thesis, we examine human development in the countries of the European Union and its relationship with selected economic and social welfare factors. Human development is measured by the Human Development Index (HDI), which combines achievements in health, education and standard of living. The subject of analysis is the European Union countries in the period 2004–2023, where, in addition to HDI values, selected economic factors are also examined, namely gross domestic product per capita, gross fixed capital formation, exports of goods and services, and wages, as well as social welfare factors, namely the share of the population aged 25 to 34 with tertiary education, general government expenditure on social protection, general government expenditure on health, and gross domestic expenditure on research and development. The topic is important because, despite a common institutional framework, the Member States of the European Union differ both in the level of human development and in the values of selected economic factors and social welfare factors. The results show that the value of HDI in the European Union countries mostly increased during the analysed period, although differences between Member States remained present. The empirical results indicate that the Human Development Index is related to both economic factors and social welfare factors, while the statistical significance of individual factors differs between the full sample and the groups of countries with higher and lower HDI. The findings confirm that both groups of factors should be considered when studying human development, as they provide a broader insight into the factors associated with the level of human development.
