Abstract:Besedotvorje je pomemben del jezikovnega razvoja, saj omogoča bogatenje in širjenje besedišča.

Title:Comprehension of (new)derivatives and third graders' word-formation creativity in regard to dramatic About a Chicken That Stole a Song
Abstract:Word formation is an important part of language development, as it enables the enrichment and expansion of vocabulary. In literature, its expressive potential is frequently manifested through the creation of stylistically effective nonce words, which contribute to linguistic playfulness and encourage the reader's language sensitivity. In youth literature, innovative language use is frequently reflected in the literary works of Bina Štampe Žmavc. In the dramatic work O kuri, ki je izmaknila pesem, neologisms play an important stylistic role while simultaneously providing numerous opportunities for exploring children's word-formation creativity and for the development of their linguistic and creative competence. The master's thesis focuses on the comprehension and formation of words among third-grade pupils. It examines pupils' comprehension of neologisms in a selected dramatic text, with consideration of the influence of context—one group of pupils interpreted the derivatives within their context, whereas the other did so without contextual support. The master's thesis also examines pupils' word-formation creativity, with particular attention to whether neologisms follow systemic or non-systemic word-formation patterns. The results indicate that third-grade pupils coin both systemic and non-systemic neologisms, with non-systemic forms prevailing. Compounding, the merging of parts of different words, was identified as the most frequent word-formation process. It was also found that context contributes to the accurate comprehension of nonce words.
