Abstract:V magistrskem delu predstavljamo razvoj, umeritev in uporabo ultrazvočnega merilnega sistema za določevanje plinske sestave v celici za rentgensko absorpcijsko spektroskopijo.

Title:Determination of gas composition inside a cell for x-ray absorption spectroscopy based on ultrasound velocity measurements
Abstract:This master's thesis presents the development, calibration, and application of an ultrasonic measurement system for determining the gas composition inside a cell used for X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The measurement method is based on the dependence of the speed of sound on the composition of a gas mixture. By accurately measuring the speed of ultrasound, we determined the concentrations of gaseous hydrides of 5p-group elements (SnH₄, SbH₃, TeH₂, and HI) in the product gases used as samples for synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments in the field of experimental atomic physics. By transferring the gas mixture from the absorption cell to the ultrasonic measurement cell, we indirectly determined the time constants governing the diffusion of helium and hydrogen from the interior of the absorption cell into the surrounding environment. Based on these measurements, we improved the sealing performance of the absorption cell. Using a similar approach, we also measured the time constants describing the decrease in hydride concentrations inside the improved X-ray absorption cell. The results presented in this thesis contribute to improving the reliability of certain parameters obtained from previously measured X-ray absorption spectra. The improved sealing of absorption cells for gaseous samples achieved through the described measurements may enhance the quality of future X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments. Together with the developed ultrasonic measurement method, this work represents a further step in the development of instrumentation for synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy studies of unstable gaseous samples.
