Abstract:Zelišča uporabljamo dnevno, največ v obliki čajev.

Title:Project work in early childhood education: discovering herbs - from plant to cup of tea
Abstract:We use herbs every day, mostly in the form of tea. When we have a cold or feel restless, a simple cup of tea is often enough to help. We wanted to introduce children to the world of herbs in a way that suited them—through play, observation and experimentation. We wanted to show them that herbs grow everywhere—in meadows, gardens and along footpaths. This thesis is based on a project carried out with a group of preschool children aged 3 to 4. The theoretical part emphasises that the natural environment is very important for children, as it encourages curiosity and independence. The most important thing, however, is that the teacher sets an example for the children and guides them as they explore the natural environment. Through a series of nature-related activities that were integrated with other areas of the curriculum, the project helped children expand their knowledge of herbs and their use in herbal teas. To assess progress in the final evaluation, we interviewed the children before the 14-day project began and after it ended. The results show that the project was a success, as the participants’ knowledge of and interest in herbs and their uses have increased significantly. The greatest progress was seen in the children’s understanding of the process of making herbal tea, as by the end of the project, they were able to describe several steps involved in the preparation and connect them into a whole. In addition to making tea and learning about herbs, the children also learned to respect nature.
