Abstract:Družbena omrežja imajo pomembno vlogo v vsakdanjem življenju mladostnikov, zato je vse več pozornosti namenjene dejavnikom, povezanim z njihovo uporabo in zadovoljstvom z življenjem.

Title:The Fear of Missing Out, Social Self-Concept, and Peer Attachment as Predictors of Social Media Use and Life Satisfaction in Adolescents
Abstract:Social media play an important role in adolescents' everyday lives; therefore, increasing attention is being devoted to factors associated with their use and with life satisfaction. The purpose of the master’s thesis was to examine the relationship between peer attachment, social self-concept, fear of missing out, social media use and life satisfaction among adolescents. Particular attention was devoted to testing the mediating role of fear of missing out. The study included 143 secondary school students, aged 16 to 18 years, from three secondary schools in Maribor. Data were collected using an online questionnaire and analysed by means of correlation analyses, hierarchical regression analysis and mediation analyses. The results showed that social self-concept and peer attachment were positively associated with life satisfaction, whereas fear of missing out was associated with lower life satisfaction and more frequent social media use. Social self-concept and peer attachment were not directly associated with the frequency of social media use. Fear of missing out emerged as an important predictor of social media use and life satisfaction. The mediation analyses showed that fear of missing out fully mediated the relationship between social self-concept and social media use, and partially mediated the relationship between social self-concept and life satisfaction
