Uporabljeni so kazalniki donosnosti, likvidnosti, zadolženosti, učinkovitosti in denarnih tokov, dopolnjeni z opisno statistiko, testi razlik, korelacijsko analizo in DuPontovo razgradnjo donosnosti. .

Title:Analysis of the financial performance of selected pharmaceutical companies
Abstract:The pharmaceutical sector combines high value added, heavy investment in development and long capital-recovery cycles, which often makes differences in financial performance between individual companies sharper than their size alone would suggest. This master's thesis examines that question through three generic-drug manufacturers from South-Eastern Europe — Krka, Alkaloid and Pliva — and seeks to explain where the differences in their profitability, indebtedness and operating stability originate. The analysis draws on the companies' financial statements for the 2015–2025 period, expressed in euros. The comparison centres on Krka and Alkaloid, which provide an uninterrupted data series, while Pliva is included for the years in which data are available. The study applies indicators of profitability, liquidity, leverage, efficiency and cash flow, complemented by descriptive statistics, difference tests, correlation analysis and a DuPont decomposition of return on assets. The findings confirm systematic and statistically significant differences in profitability, with Krka consistently outperforming Alkaloid (average ROA of 10.7% against 7.5%). The decomposition shows that this advantage is driven by a higher margin rather than faster asset turnover. Lower leverage is associated with greater financial stability, best illustrated by the debt-free, highly liquid Krka and by Alkaloid, where rising leverage accompanied a decline in liquidity. Steadier cash flows coincide with more reliable profitability, although the small sample prevents this relationship from being firmly confirmed. The results indicate that performance differences stem from business models, portfolio structure and financing choices rather than from chance.
