Title:How student work affects commitment, academic performance, and career development
Abstract:Student work is a widespread practice among Slovenian students, which can have both positive and negative consequences for their development. This thesis examines how student work affects students' engagement, academic success, and career development. The results of the research show that student work has a positive impact on the development of competencies and soft skills, and that work experience motivates students to complete their studies. The content-related connection between work and the field of study proved to be a key factor — when work and studies are aligned in terms of content, career engagement and motivation mutually reinforce each other. Negative effects on academic success are present primarily in the form of time pressure, rather than as a direct cause of poorer academic performance
Keywords:student work, engagement, academic success, career development
