Abstract:Zanesljivo in pravočasno posredovanje prometnih informacij je eden ključnih dejavnikov za zagotavljanje varnosti in pretočnosti prometa na avtocestnem omrežju. V analizi sta bili obravnavani jutranja in popoldanska prometna konica. Ugotovitve potrjujejo, da integrirana uporaba ITS in C-ITS predstavlja najučinkovitejši pristop za izboljšanje prometne varnosti in odzivnosti sistema.

Title:The impact of timedelays in traffic information transmission using ITS and C-ITS systems
Abstract:Reliable and timely transmission of traffic information is crucial for ensuring safety and traffic flow efficiency on motorway networks. This study examines time delays in information transmission within Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) on the Slovenian motorway network, focusing on the section between the Jasovnik and Trojane tunnels. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of existing notification systems and assess the impact of time delays on the timely notification of drivers in the event of incidents in tunnels. The analysis is based on empirical data from the Regional Traffic Control Centre in Vransko for a representative day selected according to the criterion of normal traffic conditions, without exceptional events or significant deviations from the typical traffic pattern. Both morning and afternoon peak periods were considered. The study compares manual and automated activation of traffic portals, as well as different update intervals of the Promet+ mobile application. Particular attention is given to the proportion of drivers who were not informed within the critical time window. The results show that the average delay for manual activation of the traffic portals is 34 seconds, and for the continuously updated Promet+ app it is 27 seconds. In the case of automatic activation, these delays are much shorter: 25 seconds for the portals and 18 seconds for the Promet+ app. This indicates that C-ITS enables faster and more reliable information transmission compared to conventional ITS. Automation and shorter update intervals significantly reduce delays and increase the proportion of drivers informed in a timely manner. The findings confirm that the integrated use of ITS and C-ITS is the most effective approach to improving traffic safety and system responsiveness.
