Title:Personality types - their impact on leadership and collaboration in a company
Abstract:The modern business environment is based on teamwork, yet its effectiveness varies significantly across organizations. In managing employees, company leaders often overlook individual personality differences and instead rely on traditional, one-way management approaches that do not sufficiently encourage open communication, collaboration, or the expression of diverse opinions. Over time, this reduces employees' willingness to share ideas and contribute to organizational development. This bachelor's thesis examines the personality types of leaders and employees and their influence on leadership dynamics and collaborative performance within organizations. The theoretical framework is based on the MER model of integral management, which places leadership within the broader context of organizational govorance and management process. It further integrates leadership styles, the Hersey and Blanchard Situational Leadership Model, the importance of teamwork and communication, and selected personality frameworks, including the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Big Five personality model, and Belbin's Team Roles. The empirical part is based on an experimental workshop involving 28 participants. During the workshop, participants compared individual and collaborative approaches to solving the same task, explored two conflicting perspectives of a fictional business-based story, and completed the MBTI personality assessment. The findings indicate that the collaborative approach was significantly faster than the individual approach, that understanding an opposing perspective altered participants' judgments regarding individual responsibility, and that leadership roles within teams are not exclusively associated with a single personality profile. Instead, leadership can also be assumed by personality types that are not typically identified by theory as natural leaders. Based on these findings, the thesis proposes recommendations for adaptive leadership practices that recognize and accommodate personality differences in order to enhance teamwork and organizational effectiveness.
