Title:Ensuring employee mental health as part of the organization’s sustainability strategy
Abstract:Sustainable organizational development today encompasses not only environmental and economic aspects but also social responsibility and concern for employees’ well-being. The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis was to examine the importance of integrating employees’ mental health into an organization’s sustainable development strategy and to determine how leadership, psychological safety, and organizational culture contribute to creating a healthy work environment. The theoretical part presents the concepts of sustainable development, ESG, employee mental health, factors influencing mental health, and programs and measures aimed at supporting it. In the empirical part, a qualitative study was conducted using a semi-structured interview with the director of the Red Cross of Negotino. The interview results showed that the organization recognizes the importance of mental health as a significant component of sustainable development and implements various activities to support employees and volunteers. It was found that a positive organizational culture, leadership support, psychological safety, and open communication play an important role in integrating mental health into the organization’s sustainability strategy. The research also revealed a connection between the systematic care for employees’ mental health and the long-term success and stability of the organization.
