Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava odnos staršev do branja otrokom v predšolskem obdobju. V teoretičnem delu smo predstavili jezikovni razvoj predšolskega otroka, osnovno razumevanje knjige, bralno pismenost, bralno motivacijo in družinsko pismenost.

Title:Parental Attitudes Toward Reading to Preschool Children
Abstract:This bachelor's thesis examines parents' attitudes toward reading to children during the preschool period. The study focuses on the importance of family reading and the role of parents in the development of early literacy skills and the formation of a positive attitude toward books. The theoretical part presents the language development of preschool children, basic concepts related to books, reading literacy, reading motivation, and family literacy. Special attention is given to the importance of reading in the preschool years, family reading practices, and the role of parents in fostering children's linguistic and overall development. The empirical part of the study explores the reading habits of parents of preschool children through a questionnaire survey. The research examined how often parents read, how frequently they read to their children, how often they visit libraries, and which reading materials they most commonly choose. The findings indicate that most parents read to their children daily or several times a week, while library visits most commonly occur several times a month. The results also show that parents with a higher level of education read to their children more frequently than parents with a lower level of education. Based on these findings, the study confirms the significant role of the family in promoting reading and supporting the development of reading literacy among preschool children.
