Abstract:Finančni stres predstavlja pomemben psihološki in fizični pritisk, povezan z negotovostjo pri upravljanju osebnih financ, ter pomemben vir psihosocialnega stresa.

Title:Financial stress among older people
Abstract:Financial stress represents a significant psychological and physical burden associated with uncertainty in managing personal finances and constitutes an important source of psychosocial stress. Due to population ageing and increasing life expectancy, financial stress has become particularly important among older adults, who often face limited financial resources and greater financial insecurity. Its consequences are reflected at the psychological and physical levels as well as in overall quality of life. This master’s thesis examines financial stress among older adults and also presents their financial situation in Slovenia in terms of the at-risk-of-poverty rate and the risk-of-social-exclusion rate. The aim of the master’s thesis was to examine financial stress among older adults in Slovenia and to determine whether its average level differs statistically significantly according to gender, age, education, and Income. The master’s thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part presents the concepts of stress and financial stress, as well as a review of relevant domestic and international literature at the micro level. Particular attention is devoted to financial stress among older adults, including its key causes and consequences and the findings of previous research in this field. The empirical part of the master’s thesis is based on a survey in which 212 individuals aged 65 or older participated. The data were collected using an online questionnaire and face-to-face surveying and were statistically analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics. The analysis included descriptive statistics, testing for normality of the data distribution, and the application of non-parametric statistical tests, namely the Mann Whitney U test and the Kruskal–Wallis H test. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences in the average level of financial stress according to gender, education, and Income. Women reported higher levels of financial stress than men, while individuals with lower levels of educational attainment and lower incomes also reported higher levels of financial stress. No statistically significant differences in the average level of financial stress were found among the individual age groups. The thesis concludes with recommendations for policymakers and a conclusion.
