Abstract:Podporne konstrukcije so pogost element prometne in gradbene infrastrukture, pri čemer kamnite zložbe zemeljski pritisk zaledja prevzemajo predvsem z lastno težo.

Title:Seismic Analysis of a Stone Gravity Retaining Wall
Abstract:Retaining structures are a common element of transport and civil infrastructure, whereby stone gravity walls resist the earth pressure of the backfill mainly through their self-weight. This thesis presents a geotechnical analysis of a stone gravity retaining wall with a total height of 5 m, in static and seismic design situations. The static active earth pressure is determined using Coulomb's theory and the seismic pressure using the pseudo-static Mononobe–Okabe method, in accordance with Eurocode 7 and Eurocode 8. Sliding, overturning, eccentricity of the resultant and bearing capacity of the foundation soil are verified, considering both directions of the vertical seismic acceleration. The results show that all verifications are satisfied for the initial geometry. The seismic action increases the active earth pressure coefficient and either reduces or increases the vertical force and changes the governing failure mechanism. In the static analysis the bearing capacity of the foundation soil governs, whereas in the pseudo-static analysis the eccentricity of the resultant governs. A sensitivity analysis shows that both governing verifications exceed the limit value at approximately agR = 0,12 g. Optimisation of the cross-section reduces the self-weight of the wall by about 10 % while all verifications remain satisfied.
