Abstract:V večini slovenskih osnovnih šol je angleščina eden izmed obveznih predmetov v drugem in tretjem triletju.

Title:Angleški glagoli v sedmih in devetih razredih slovenskih osnovnih šol
Abstract:In the majority of Slovenian primary schools, English is one of the compulsory subjects in the second and third triennia. In the meantime, the students are expected to get to know the characteristics and culture of the countries where English is spoken. Students learn that English is a means of communication between people. According to the English Language Syllabus, the students should master everyday communication at the end of elementary school. For successful communication, students should learn the fundamental rules by which they could form grammatically correct sentences, and thereby improve their oral communication with others in English. The theoretical part includes English verbs and tenses which students acquire mainly in the 7th grade. Furthermore, the 7th grade students’ knowledge is compared with the knowledge of the 9th grade students, who gradually consolidated and upgraded this knowledge. We were interested in the existence of differences in knowledge of English verbs and tenses between the students of the 7th and the 9th grades. The theoretical part of the diploma work is supported by an empirical survey. It was conducted by means of a questionnaire, consisting of numerous examples in different tenses that we have collected from books and workbooks that are most commonly used to teach English in the 7th and the 9th grades of Slovenian primary schools. The survey has shown that students of the 9th grades know the rules for formation of different tenses in greater proportion than the students of the 7th grades. By practising and consolidating the knowledge, one can form grammatically correct sentences. To conclude, with the years students really consolidate, upgrade and more correctly use their English knowledge.
