Abstract:Sodobna osnovna šola teži k čim bolj aktivnem vključevanju učencev v pouk.

Title:Science activities on Mariborski otok for target group of second triad of primary school
Abstract:Contemporary primary school aims at students' active participation in education. Teachers should be aware that a subject like Science must not merely be an accumulation of information and knowledge. Various teaching methods can make Science fun, pleasant and interesting. Children prefer to learn about nature in nature rather than in a classroom. Mariborski otok is one of the most beautiful classrooms in nature. Most people know Mariborski otok to be a swimming pool; however, it is much more than that. It is one of the protected natural and cultural areas. It is known for its extremely diverse animal and plant life; thus; in this classroom, teaching can be explorative and sensual. Studying nature with all their senses, the direct contact with plants and animals develops natural amazement, admiration and curiosity in children. Field trips to Mariborski otok and students' independent work and exploration expand a relationship with Science as a subject and with nature. Furthermore, this kind of learning plays an important part in social skills education. Excursion creates a relaxed and democratic environment and students further develop their interaction and mutual respect. Individual differences disappear. In this diploma paper I present activities in Science which can be conducted in Mariborski otok and are especially appropriate for students in class 4, 5, and 6. Activities are formed in a way to stimulate students' development of space conception, to connect theory and practice and to broaden students' knowledge.
