Abstract:V diplomskem delu so predstavljeni postkolonialni motivi in teme v romanih Hanifa Kureishija, ki so prevedeni v slovenski jezik; Buda iz predmestja (1990), Črni album (1995) in Nekaj ti moram povedati (2008). Kureishijevi liki so hibridne osebnosti, razpeti so med »belo« Anglijo in »črno« domovino in svojo barvo kože označujejo s svetlorjavim odtenkom.

Title:Postcolonial motifs and themes in works of Hanif Kureishi
Abstract:The diploma paper presents postcolonial motifs and themes in the novels written by Hanif Kureishi that have been translated into the Slovene language, namely The Buddha of Suburbia (1990), The Black Album (1995), and Something to Tell You (2008). Since his novel Intimacy (1998) describes relations between a man and a woman, we can not find postcolonial motifs in it, which is why it has been left out of the analysis. In his novels, Hanif Kureishi deals with postcolonial subjects and for this reason, the diploma paper, too, briefly treats post-colonialism and post-colonial literature. The diploma paper stresses the analysis of postcolonial subjects and motifs, especially in view of identity. It describes in detail the religious identity of individual characters in the novels, and also the national identity, since the individuals are black Englishmen that are accepted by the society as different and inferior. There is also an analysis of the cultural identity and race, because the protagonists have frequently been stigmatised and victims of racism on account of their culture. Kureishi’s characters are hybrid personalities that are stretched between the “white” England and their “black” homeland and they mark the colour of their skin with a light-brown shade. The diploma paper treats the identities separately; however, they are frequently interwoven which is why this demarcation in not obligatory.
