Abstract:Kretnje kot del neverbalne komunikacije zavzemajo pomembno vlogo v procesu učenja in poučevanja.

Title:GESTURES AND FRACTIONS
Abstract:Gestures as a part of non-verbal communication play an important role in learning and teaching. Because math is very abstract science, it seems particularly appropriate to study, how people use gestures to communicate with mathematical ideas. Gestures will be categorized by the level of symbolism. The theoretical framework of the thesis is social constructivism. Language is a tool for communication, gesture is a communication activity. Gestures are described as spontaneous hand and body movements, which are closely related to the flow of speech. We say that the gestures are movement of the body, which meets the communication functions. The general part of the thesis called Gestures and fractions was to collect and analyze gestures, linked with the mathematic topic fractions, with the purpose to understand, how gestures are used in communication about mathematics, and to develop a suitable analytic framework of gestures, linked with this field of human acknowledgement. In the theoretical part of the thesis we used the literature study method. The later was the basis for question formation in the empirical part of the thesis. The empirical part was based on the use of descriptive methods. The research was carried out on a non-casual occasional sample of three teachers of primary education with more than five years of work experience, and three graduates of primary education. The subject to the statistical processing were gestures, made in answering the questions. The data processing, based on the proposed model, showed quite expected results of gestures in teaching. The use of gestures in mathematics has proven to be relatively quantified. We assume that the results would be different, if the participants in the study would actually discuss with students and not the authoress.
Keywords:mathematics, fractions, use of gestures, primary education.
