Title:Teamwork in the organization of nursing care process
Abstract:Theory: Team work in health care (hereafter HC) is a common shape of work used in all types of health organizations today. Team work in the organization of nursing care process (hereafter NCP) is a guide to nurses and medical technicians to perform the most effective and professional HC activities. HC is a professional discipline, which demands increasingly qualified staff of health care workers. To help with solving current nursing problems with the patients, nursing teams are formed. Team work in NCP organization is cooperation between nurses and medical technicians in order to achieve the objectives of NCP. Purpose: The purpose of this degree is to present the main characteristics of team work and to define team work in the NCP organization, to determine the significance of team work in the NCP organization and the factors, which have great influence on the team work in a clinical environment of the University Clinical Centre (hereafter UCC) Maribor. Methodology: With the research method of questionnaire a survey was conducted in the UCC Maribor on the Department of Psychiatry, where 30 members of the nursing team (hereafter interviewees) have been interviewed. We used a closed-ended questionnaire with 10 questions or statements. In the first part we studied general information about the interviewees, in the second the organization of team work in NCP and the features of team work, in the third management of the nursing team, and in the fourth elements, which have a significant impact on effective teamwork. Results: The research results have shown, that the team work in NCP organization is welcome and that the members of the team are trying to realize the goals of the organization. The nursing team wishes mutual cooperation and open communication. They continue to desire respect, trust and support in the team. They agreed the leader of the nursing team is a person, who has a big influence on them and who tries to motivate each of them and to guide them to the common goal of the organization. In the set of statements about communication and motivation the interviewees agreed that the two concepts are an important instrument for a successfully organized HC. Nursing team members are satisfied, when they can freely exchange important information and are trying to understand the position of every individual. Conclusion: In an opinion poll of employees we found that the work organization is an important activity for building team work in NCP. Furthermore, a professional communication is very important since it affects the development and the effectiveness of teamwork. The professional communication presents an instrument for organizing HC. A leader of the nursing team, whose activities affect the motivation and employee satisfaction, is highly important.
