Abstract:Terorizem ima zaradi namernega škodovanja in tudi ubijanja civilistov oziroma nebojujočih izrazito negativno moralno oznako. Zato v izraelsko-palestinskem konfliktu obe strani z namenom demoniziranja nasprotne strani obtožujeta druga drugo uporabe terorizma.

Title:(IM)MORALITY OF VIOLENCE AND TERRORISM IN THE ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN CONFLICT
Abstract:Due to its deliberate aim on hurting and even killing civilians and non-fighters, terrorism has a distinctly negative moral character. In the framework of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict both sides use this fact to demonise the opposing side for its presumed use of terrorism. Through conceptual and comparative analysis we evaluated different definitions of terrorism and acquired the suitable definition of terrorism as it is used in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by the method of synthesis. Based on this definition and an examination of the violence used by Palestinians and Israelis, we've concluded that terrorism is used by both sides in the conflict. Palestinian terrorism receives more media attention than Israeli terrorism, since the latter mostly happens in form of retaliatory actions, which make it more difficult to be recognised as terrorism, despite the fact that such military assaults that include certain elements of terrorism, as in the case of the Israeli attack on Gaza »Cast Lead«, are incomparably deadlier for Palestinian civilians than Palestinian attacks are for Israeli civilians. By employing the principles of the just war theory and with a critical analysis of arguments concerning the moral justification of terrorism, we've concluded that both the Palestinian and the Israeli terrorism are not justifiable. Additionally, we argue that on the basis of comparative analysis Israeli terrorism is more morally burdening than Palestinian, seeing as the Palestinians unlike the Israelis are under threat of a moral catastrophe, which is being caused by the Israeli occupation and the settlement construction and expansion policies in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
