Abstract:V diplomskem delu z naslovom Naraščajoči vzorci in primerjava znanja le-teh med učenci 5. in 9. razreda osnovne šole smo želeli raziskati razlike v znanju o rastočih vzorcih med učenci 5. in 9. razreda osnovne šole. Raziskavo smo izvedli v 5. in 9. razredu.

Title:GROWING PATTERNS AND COMPARISON OF KNOWLEDGE BETWEEN PUPILS OF 5TH AND 9TH GRADE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Abstract:The purpose of the thesis was to research knowledge differences about growing patterns among pupils of fifth and ninth grade of primary school. Further aim was to establish whether growing patterns were sufficiently emphasized subject in lessons and whether there were differences in pupils’ knowledge according to sex, grade and their success at mathematics. The thesis consists of theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part presents the definition of a pattern, the types of patterns, and which pattern involving activities can be used in lessons. Furthermore, the growing pattern is defined in detail followed by some explanations of examples and the definition of a sequence. The distinction between a pattern and a sequence is displayed as well. The main idea of empirical part was to state, whether there were any differences between pupils’ knowledge of growing patterns based on sex, grade and their success at mathematics. The research was conducted in fifth and ninth grade. Each pupil wrote a short exam featuring various tasks on growing patterns where they had to continue the pattern, fill in the pattern chart and write down the rule by which the pattern grows. It has been ascertained that knowledge differences based on sex between pupils do not exist, while there are some distinctions based on grade and success at mathematics.
Keywords:pattern, growing pattern, activities, pattern examples, sequence
