Abstract:Kadar govorimo o glasbi Brazilije, govorimo o prostoru z nepojmljivo velikim opusom kulture, zgodovine, tradicije, multikulturnosti.

Title:MUSIC OF BRAZIL: BRIEF OVERVIEW
Abstract:When we consider the music of Brazil, we consider the space with enormous heritage of culture, history, tradition, multiculture. Brazil is the fifth biggest country on the globe, covering the half of South American continent and has more than 190 milion inhabitans. It is divided in five regions: North Region, Northeast Region, Central-West Region, Southeast Region, South Region. Each region is holding completely its own heritage, specifics, rituals, character, dialect etc. Music of Brazil is holding very interesting musical forms that are mostly a mixture of European classical song forms and the tribal African heritage, for example choro. It is a blend of late-romantic harmony (Ravel, Debussy) mixed with fresh groove of acoustic guitar, combined with jazz rhythm section and all that is called bossa nova. Authentic Brazilian instrument is mostly percussion: pandeiro, surdo, berimbau and many others that are part of the orchestra called batucada, which is playing in a time of the Carnival. Very important impact on Brazilian music and culture has religion Candomble, which originates from African slavery. With the introduction of television in 1960s and spreading of popular songs, festivals and rock’n’roll, also the influence of Brazilian music came to Europe and it mixed with different types of music, also with Slovenian popular music. However, the Brazilian rhythm, harmony and groove find its internal place in jazz standards.
