Abstract:V teoretičnem delu diplomske naloge so predstavljene starejše in novejše opredelitve samopodobe, sestavine samopodobe, dejavniki, ki vplivajo na njeno oblikovanje, odnos med samopodobo in učnim uspehom, opisane pa so tudi najpogostejše tehnike ugotavljanja samopodobe.

Title:APPROACHES TO LEARNERS' POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM DEVELOPMENT
Abstract:A theoretical part of my thesis introduces old and the newest definitions of a self-image, its components and factors, influencing its formation, the relationship between self-esteem and learning achievements. There are also the most frequent techniques of pursuing self-esteem presented. The main focus is on the presentation of different approaches for self-esteem development. In an empirical part we presented the results of our research, which was made by a questionnaire, filled out by teachers, teaching in the first period. Our research showed that they try to encourage their learners’ positive self-esteem, and are aware of apposite approaches, suitable to develop a children’s healthy image about themselves. In view of the results a conclusion can be reached that theteachers’ approaches are effective not only in learners’ self-esteem but also in learners’ achievements and activities in school and their social life. The teachers think that they present "the significant other" when learners’ self-esteem is being developed. The thesis also presents teachers’ opinions about the significance of their attributes and manners when developing their learners’ self-esteem.
Keywords:self-esteem, primary school, the first period, approaches for developing positive self-esteem, the effects of using approaches for developing self-esteem, teacher as "the significant other"
