Abstract:POVZETEK Teoretična izhodišča: Hipertermija nastane zaradi motenega oddajanja telesne temperature v okolico.

Title:Children and hyperthermia
Abstract:ABSTRACT Theoretical origin: Hyperthermia occurs due to failed capability of absorbing or producing body heat. Most common causes for hyperthermia include extreme muscle activity, elevated metabolism caused by endocrine diseases, heat stroke and heat exhaustion in babies as well as extensive skin burns or other skin injuries. Conditions such as high environmental temperatures and high humidity levels prevent the regulation of excess heat and can very quickly be the cause for hyperthermia. This is why it is very important that parents learn how to observe their children when they are sick and also when they are healthy. Information about the fluid intake and the child’s skin condition. In cases of febrile seizures it is very important that the parents remain calm and place the child in the corresponding position as well as continue to monitor him. Health promotion its purpose to offer incentive for individuals and society members in order to sustain their health and the health of their children or to actively begin to care about their health. Research methodology: The theoretical part of this thesis is based on a descriptive method. Most information was found in domestic as well as foreign specialized literature. The research was performed with a quantitative method. A structured questionnaire with 15 questions of open and closed format questions was used to collect important data. The survey was conducted in April 2013 and included 60 parents and 54 members of the nursing care team. The collected data was statistically processed in the Excel programme and displayed in diagrams. Results: the collected data showed that 75 % of questioned parents still know too little about natural methods for lowering elevated body temperature as well as about the meaning of corresponding medication. Conclusion: Although our health system and modern medicine has made significant progress, parents as well as members of the nursing care team continue to lack significant information about elevated body temperature, its source and effects (negative or positive), treatment, febrile seizures and the appropriate time for seeking the help of a physician. Members of the nursing team must possess sufficient knowledge in order to appropriately advice parents about elevated body temperature. In this way the fear associated with hyperthermia will lessen, both in parents and medical staff.
