Abstract:Jezik političnih besedil je jezik moči. Poznamo dve vrsti prepričevanja: utemeljevanje in pregovarjanje.

Title:ARGUMENTATION AND PERSUASIVE MEANS IN SPEECHES OF PRESIDENTAL CANDIDATES IN THE LAST PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS
Abstract:The language of political texts is the language of power. A certain degree of honesty is typical for creators of political texts or politicians. Their liability is limited only by their own conscience or conscience of the party. Politicians who have experiences with public speaking are more successful with texts formation. They focus on voters’ instinct, characteristics of human feelings and basic emotions. The basic wording of the political texts is argumentation or persuasion. Argumentation is successful when addressee or voters accept arguments. For arguments it is not necessarily to be true, it is important to be convincing. Two types of persuasion exist: argumentation and inducement. When using argumentation, creator of the text allows addressee to choose whether to accept or reject arguments; when using inducement, the addressee does not have this option. The efficacy of argumentation is analysed with models of argumentation. One of the most useful is Brinker’s model. It takes into account the classification of argumentation in a certain situation. According to Brinker’s model of argumentation it is presented how four leading politicians (Borut Pahor, Janez Janša, Zoran Janković and Gregor Virant), who strived for victory at the last state assembly elections, argue. In addition, speeches or parts of speeches, in which politicians want to manipulate voters, are presented. Besides Brinker’s model of argumentation, persuasive means are important for the practical part of the thesis that enables politicians to affect voters’ emotions and induce them to the act manipulatively, which is inconsistent with its purpose. The analysis is based on three pre-election debates of commercial television station POP TV.
