Title:ART IN A SUITCASE
Abstract:The main purpose of my diploma paper with the title Art in a suitcase is to explore the idea of transportability and mobility of a work of art and to practically test and present a suitcase as a low-cost exhibition site. Fine art is not resistant to financial and economic crisis. Due to lack of connection with foreign countries, undeveloped market, lack of cultural and political willpower, in times of crisis this area is even more neglected. Here are just a few of the consequences in Slovenia due to less developed art system and general crisis in comparison with the rich tradition of the West. A great deal of artistic creation has not been possible so far without compromise, but today people with the status of self-employed professionals in culture are particularly vulnerable and can be considered as a fragile social group. Their artistic plans are increasingly associated with different ways of existence. In the field of exhibitions and artistic production the sponsorship support is modest and public funds are limited. For this reason, in recent years the word “mobility” has become an important expression of cultural policy and political economy. Namely, modern institutions use it as the meaning of their existence. A suitcase has always been the symbol of mobility with which we can contribute to the reflection on modification of institutional operation, outshining impersonal techniques and above all expose it as a low-cost exhibition site.
