Z opazovanjem in opisovanjem likovnega jezika v različnih obdobjih umetnikovega ustvarjanja in z opazovanjem lastnega likovnega jezika ob izražanju eksistencialnih vsebin, predvsem osamljenosti in tesnobe, sem poskušala najti najznačilnejša likovna izrazna sredstva.

Title:MAGICAL IMAGES OF LONESOME BEINGS IN GABRIJEL STUPICA'S PAINTINGS
Abstract:The thesis Magical Images of Lonesome Beings in Gabrijel Stupica's paintings discusses Stupica’s art. Herein, his artistic motifs are also related to the motifs of my own painting. The thesis focuses on existentialist figuration, respectively on expressing existentialist themes through the visual art language of modernism. The purpose of the thesis is to present the development of the artist's visual language through his various creative periods, to establish the main motifs of his painting and to present the characteristics of existential figuration. Observing and describing the artistic language in the different periods of Stupica’s artistic creating and observing my own artistic language expressing existentialist themes (above all loneliness and anxiety), I aimed to find or detect various artistic means of expression. Stupica's artistic origins derive from the realist painting tradition, however, in the middle of the 1950's he moved to a new artistic system abandoning the standard practice of traditional painting, such as mimesis and perspective. His modernist painting style developed as far as to monochrome white paintings, where a painting becomes a rough surface in the style of informel art with a brutally simplified image of a girl or a bride. The main motifs of his traditional painting are portrait, self-portrait and still life, while the main motifs of his modernist painting are self-portrait in the atelier, girl at the table with toys and also girl and woman with a veil (bride). His existentialist painting is introvert in terms of its content and it does not offer a solution or catharsis. The images become magical creatures who live in the empty timelessness and are existentially isolated.
