Title:COMPARING THE APPROACHES TO MUSICALLY TALENTED CHILDREN IN REGULAR AND SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
Abstract:The purpose of the diploma thesis was to determine in what way music could be connected with a child regarding its gender and age, and how children can perceive, sense and find the meaning of life itself in music. Furthermore, we wanted to explore in what way can a child even be recognized as musically talented and how he or she can be motivated and encouraged to become talented in music. We wanted to show that a musical talent can also be found in children included in the special education programme and not only in children attending the regular education programme and that a child's musical talent is largely connected with other interest activities he or she attends. The objectives of the thesis were to establish a relation between the development of a child's musical talents and his or her peers, parents and teachers. In addition, we were exploring the approaches and methods used by the teachers in teaching, testing and assessment of children's musical knowledge. We have also tried to accentuate how musical talent is associated with a child's physical development and associated its musical talent with various determinants, such as gender, age, and even a programme of elementary education. Here the emphasis was put on determination of how musical talent is reflected among children in regular educational programmes and those in special educational programmes. We have established that musical talent alone is strongly reflected through a child's self-image, self-esteem and psycho-physical development. There were significant differences according to gender and even according to the type of primary education programme the children were attending. However, the motivation and talent is to a great extent connected with the child's own family and their encouragement for the world of music. Last but not least, we were able to conclude that teaching, testing and assessment of the children's musical knowledge is mostly performed in groups, as an individual work or in creative workshops. To evaluate the knowledge, teachers most commonly use the oral and practical examinations.
