Title:THE EXPERIENCE OF CHILDBIRTH
Abstract:Crucial origins: Giving birth is a unique experience for every single woman, and all of them experience it in a special way. For some women it is a common process but the majority is overwhelmed by fear. How women experience childbirth depends on their proficiency on childbirth, their mental and physical condition, and personnel working in maternity rooms. Correct communication and care of a woman in childbed and her companion can have an extraordinary impact on how a woman experiences her childbirth. Research methodology: The theoretical part of the diploma is based on the descriptive research method. The applicative part includes the quantitative method. The data have been gained with help of an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions. The research group involved 31 women who had taken part in exercise lessons with their babies. Results: The results have shown that the majority of women are satisfied with the childbirth experience. Women evaluate their knowledge on childbirth as satisfying, and claim to have been informed about pre-birth examinations and processes being undertaken in specific maternity hospitals. All of the questioned women were accompanied by an attender providing them physical and mental support. In most cases, presence of a midwife was assured. The examination of interpersonal relationship and communication among medical staff and the woman in childbed and her companion has shown, that the medical personnel is superficial during the first acquaintance, as only 27 midwives out of 31 and only 9 doctors out of 15 introduced themselves. The results also confirm aberrations regarding wish-consideration and possibility of women to take part in decision-making associated with the childbirth process and passing information. Conclusion: Although the majority of women describes childbirth as a positive experience, there is a lot to be changed in the field of communication and interpersonal relationship in maternity rooms. Authoritatively and routinely led birth process should be replaced by natural, woman-in-childbed-oriented childbirth.
