Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava tri pomembna književna dela ruskega pisatelja Aleksandra Isajeviča Solženicina, Nobelovega nagrajenca in ostrega kritika sovjetske družbe.
Keywords:Aleksander Isajevič Solženicin, En dan Ivana Denisoviča, Prvi krog, Rakov oddelek, ruska književnost, družbena kritika.

Title:Criticism of the Soviet society in the selected works of Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn
Abstract:The thesis discusses three important literary works of the Russian writer Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn, a Nobel Prize winner and a sharp critique of the Soviet society. These works are: a story One day of Ivan Denisovich and novels The first circle and Cancer ward. Aleksander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn survived eleven years of prison, camps and exile. The horrible experiences that he went through all those years are described in his literary works. In the story One day of Ivan Denisovich he describes an ordinary day of a prisoner in a labour camp, in the novel The first circle he presents the life of a prisoner in a special research institute Mavrino and the life of free Russian people, and in the novel Cancer ward he describes the treatment with patients suffering from cancer at a hospital in Tashkent. At the same time he explores the moral foundations of the Soviet society. At the beginning of the thesis I present socio-political conditions in the Soviet Union during the Stalin's reign and after his death and the characteristics of literary creation at that time. Then I focus on Aleksander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn, his life, his literary path and the characteristics of his writing, especially on the socially critical part of his writing. Here the works in which this feature of his writing is most visible are exposed. In this part I define the concepts of critical realism and socially critical literature. Then I deal with his three literary works - One day of Ivan Denisovich, The first circle, and Cancer ward - and introduce their main features. The parts in all the three works where the criticism of the society is most obvious are especially exposed.
Keywords:Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn, One day of Ivan Denisovich, The first circle, Cancer ward, Russian literature, social criticism.
