Title:MOUNTAINEERING CONTENTS FOR CHILDREN
Abstract:This diploma thesis entitled Mountaineering contents for children is composed of a theoretical and an empirical part. Its aim is to present mountaineering contents for children. The theoretical part includes an overview of movement, natural forms of movement and walking as a basic form of movement. The chapter »Hiking« encompasses a presentation of the Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS), an alpine club, mountaineering contents in the nursery school, mountaineering contents in the school as well as training courses for the implementation of mountaineering contents. The chapter »To the mountains with a group of children« describes the steps that are important for the comprehensive preparation and organization of a trip for a group of children to the mountains. The aim of the empirical part of the diploma thesis was to find out, using a questionnaire, how many children are members of an alpine club as well as about the organization and preparation of a trip, the motivation of children and the execution of a trip. Results are based on a sample of 40 qualified preschool teachers and professors of primary teacher education. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument. Quantitative data processing shows that less than ten children are members of an alpine club and that mentors prepare children for a trip using different physical activities with the aim to develop endurance and strength. Mostly, they present the equipment by bringing it along and showing it to children, and then they discuss its use. To motivate children at walking trips, mentors use positive encouraging words. It was also found out that one of the most important reasons for leading an alpine club is to »accustom children to spend their free time actively«, and that only one tenth of the participants in the research organize mountaineering camps lasting several days for children.
