Abstract:V diplomski nalogi obdelamo področje opisa vin in prevodov le-teh v nemški jezik. Predstavimo njeno zgodovino, pomen vina v slovenski družbi danes in njegov sloves v svetu.

Title:Comparison of slovenian-german wine terminology
Abstract:The diploma thesis discusses the area of wine description and translations of the latter into German language. We focus on understanding of professional translation and terminological data collection. Indicated is the importance of corpus supported terminography that shows what the actual language use in professional field is. We are interested in what competencies a translator must have to be successful at his work. The understanding of cultural specific elements of culture is placed in the forefront. In doing so, we define the concept of culturemes. We show which translation procedures can be used for conducting cultural realia. We want to present an in-depth understanding of vinification and wine description; therefore we describe the culture of wine drinking in Slovenia. We present its history, the importance of wine in Slovenian society today and its reputation in the world. Presented are main features of wine within the area of wine tasting and evaluation, and descriptions which originate from them. We focus on problems with wine terminology; we look at the style of wine description and metaphors which can cause ambiguities in translation. In the empirical part of the thesis we make an analysis of the wine description, such as those found on websites of the wine-growing region Podravje and their translations into German. The gathered data and findings were properly organised and processed, based on the study of literature, collection of resources and documentation. As a result of the analysis, we made a glossary of wine terminology for language combination Slovenian – German.
