Abstract:	Cilj diplomskega dela je prikazati razvoj šolstva na Ogrskem in stanje na področju pismenosti v Prekmurju in Porabju v obdobju od 1870 do 1910. Pri tem sem poskušal oceniti, v kakšni obliki in meri je Zakon o ljudskem izobraževanju iz leta 1868, ki ga je pripravil József Eötvös, vplival na šolstvo, in posledično na stopnjo pismenosti na obravnavanem območju. Pri tem sem si pomagal z madžarsko in s slovensko strokovno literaturo, vezano na obravnavano tematiko, in z viri ter s podatki popisov prebivalstva iz let 1880, 1900 in 1910. Rezultati, ki so pridobljeni v diplomskem delu, upravičujejo nujnost in uspešnost omenjenega zakona. Njegov glavni cilj, ki je bil tudi uspešno dosežen, je bila namreč čim obsežnejša vključitev prebivalstva v izobraževalne procese, hkrati s tem pa čim uspešnejša odprava nepismenosti. Iz statističnih podatkov je razvidno, da je leta 1880 v Prekmurju pisati in brati znalo 28,5 % vsega prebivalstva, v Porabju pa 21,7 %. Trideset let kasneje (1910. leta) je pismenost v Prekmurju narasla na 61,2 %, v Porabju na 58,9 %.

Title:	Education and literacy in the multilingual area among the rivers of Raba and Mura from 1870 to 1910
Abstract:	The theme of the thesis is to introduce in which rate and form the law of people's education from the year 1868, prepared by József Eötvös, influenced education and consequently also the rate of literacy in the analized area. Preparing the thesis I considered Hungarian and Slovenian literature and sources connected to the addressed theme, together with the census of the years 1880, 1900 and 1910. The results obtained during the research justified the urgency and eligibility of the law. The primary goal of the law, the largest possible inclusion of population into educational processes with simultaneous elimination of illiteracy, was successfully achieved. Based on statistic facts from 1880, 28,5 % of the population in Prekmurje could read and write. In Porabje the relation was 21,7 %. Thirty years later in 1910 the rate of literacy in Prekmurje had raised to 61,2 %, and in Porabje to 58,9 %.
