Abstract:V magistrskem delu opredelimo in razjasnimo pojma formalna in neformalna izobrazba.

Title:FORMAL AND INFORMAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING-A COMPARISON BETWEEN SWEDISH AND SLOVENIAN STUDENTS
Abstract:The present thesis defines and explains the concepts of formal and informal education. The theoretical part presents the formal education of foreign language, educational recommendations for teaching foreign language in childhood, language skills and possible approaches with which a teacher can achieve the objectives that are outlined in the Curriculum (2011) for the subject English in primary school. Because our main purpose was to gain insight and compare how willing students are to teach English at the lower primary school level in Slovenia and in Sweden, we have presented the formal competences of teachers for teaching English at lower primary school level in both countries. The theoretical part also demonstrates domestic and foreign researches related to informal education of English language through various activities. The empirical part presents the self-assessment of students at the Department of Primary Teacher Education in Slovenia and Sweden of their knowledge of English, frequency of gaining informal knowledge in English and the views of students of both countries on how much has the informal knowledge of English language through different activities contributed to their knowledge of English. Results have shown that Swedish students estimate their knowledge of English as higher than Slovenian students. Swedish students are slightly more likely to be educated in English in more informal ways through different activities and believe that these activities have contributed to better foreign language knowledge than Slovenian students. A positive correlation has been determined with those, who estimate their knowledge of English as higher, because they believe that they have gained more through a variety of informal activities in English.
